Camdenton VFW and Auxiliary Raises $527 For Share the Harvest Food Pantry

Camdenton, MO –  VFW Post 5923 in Camdenton and its’ Auxiliary hosted their 2nd Annual St. Patrick’s Day at the Post dinner on March 16th. The fundraiser had a goal to help the Lake of the Ozarks community, and the post exceeded expectations by raising $527 from the sale of food, donations, and a 50/50 raffle. “While the crowd was much smaller than we had hoped, it was a generous one. Thanks to everyone that helped”, said Post Judge Advocate Keith Lucas.

“We wanted to do something for the community. We all kind of feel like all we have done lately is ask others to help us with our building project. This event gave us an opportunity to give back. Once we get our new building we can do more events like this, to help the Lake of the Ozarks community and all veterans” said Post Commander Blake Distler.

The post chose to support Share the Harvest Food Pantry, in honor of the recently departed pantry director Bob White and his efforts with local Boy Scouts troops.

“Our auxiliary stepped up and not only prepared a great meal of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, and carrots; but they also donated all of the food so every penny raised went to helping others,” said Post Quartermaster Terry Reaka.

The Department of Veterans Affairs also supported the event. Their “Vet Center” RV was at the post to answer questions about VA claims. “We really appreciate these folks for supporting our events. They drove from Columbia to Hannibal to Camdenton that day, making for a real long day for them. While the VA system may not be perfect, the great outreach efforts like this rarely make the news,” added Lucas.
